Site Surveys & Low-Voltage Design Documentation

Wireless coverage surveys, renovation and new-build planning, and written documentation your client can actually make a decision from.

Before anyone should be quoting drops or hanging access points, somebody has to walk the building. We survey the space, document what's there, and lay out what it needs — coverage, drop counts, device locations, pathway, and what it takes to get it done. You get a written deliverable, not a verbal walkthrough and a number.

What is a commercial site survey?

A commercial site survey is a documented walk of the building that establishes what infrastructure exists, what the space requires, and where devices and pathways belong before installation is quoted or scheduled. For wireless it includes coverage measurement and access point placement; for cabling and renovations it includes drop counts, telecom room condition, and pathway routes.

What's included

  • Wireless coverage surveys with the equipment to do it properly
  • New construction and renovation planning, not just Wi-Fi
  • Written documentation your client can decide from
  • White-label deliverables for IT and MSP partners

What you actually get

The point of a survey is a decision, so the deliverable is written to support one. We document what exists today, what the space needs, and what it will take — in language an owner or client can read without a translator.

  • Existing conditions: cabling, telecom rooms, current coverage, what's reusable
  • What the space needs and why, sized to how the building is actually used
  • Device and drop locations, plus the pathway to reach them
  • Scope and planning cost so the number isn't a surprise later

Wireless coverage surveys

We survey for coverage and capacity rather than guessing access point counts from square footage. Ceiling height, construction materials, racking, and how many devices will actually be in the room all change the answer. Wireless surveys have their own page with the detail on predictive, validation, and post-install verification work.

  • Coverage measurement and heat mapping
  • Access point count and placement from measured data
  • High-ceiling warehouse and industrial spaces
  • Predictive planning for spaces still under construction

New spaces and renovations

Survey work is not only wireless. When a client takes a new suite, expands, or guts a space, somebody has to figure out what the building can support before design is locked. We walk it and write it up.

  • New suite and tenant fit-out planning
  • Renovation and expansion assessments
  • Telecom room condition and capacity review
  • Existing cable plant audits on inherited buildings

Existing cable plant audits

When a client buys a building, takes over a suite, or inherits an undocumented network, nobody knows what's actually in the walls. An audit answers that: what runs exist, where they terminate, what's still good, what's dead, and what the telecom room can support before anyone budgets an upgrade. It's also the fastest way to stop paying to trace the same mystery cable twice.

  • Inventory of existing runs, terminations, and patch panels
  • What tests clean, what needs re-termination, and what should be replaced
  • Telecom room capacity, power, and cooling condition
  • Labeling scheme and as-built documentation for what's there now

When a survey is worth paying for

Not every job needs one. A handful of drops in an open-ceiling office does not. A survey earns its cost when the building is difficult, the design is not obvious, or somebody is about to spend real money on an assumption.

  • Before a build-out or renovation locks its design
  • When coverage or performance complaints have no obvious cause
  • When a client is budgeting an upgrade and needs a real number
  • When you're inheriting a building nobody has documentation for
  • Before a multi-site rollout, so the first site becomes the template

Multi-site standardization

For clients with several locations, the value of surveying isn't one building — it's a standard. We survey the sites, then document a consistent approach to cabling, labeling, access point placement, and telecom room layout so every location looks the same to whoever supports them. New sites get built to the standard instead of reinvented, and techs walking into any location already know where things are.

  • One documented standard applied across locations
  • Consistent labeling and telecom room layout site to site
  • A template for new locations and acquisitions
  • Phased rollout planning across sites

For IT and MSP partners

Hand it to us and we take the whole thing off your plate. We walk the site, survey it properly, and come back with documentation you can put straight in front of your client — priced so there's room in it for you. Your client gets a plan that's right for the building, and nobody gets sold something they don't need. The fastest way for us to lose a partner is to make you look bad in front of your own customer.

  • White-label documentation under your project name
  • Priced for markup or pass-through billing through your PSA
  • Right-sized recommendations — we don't pad scope
  • Survey can stand alone, or roll into an install we quote under you

How it runs

Scope the survey, walk the building, document, and deliver. If the client moves ahead, the survey feeds directly into the install quote so nothing gets re-measured or re-explained.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you have the equipment to perform wireless site surveys?
Yes. Atkins Tech Solutions performs measured wireless coverage surveys with proper survey equipment — not an app on a phone — and places access points from the data rather than from square footage. See the wireless site survey page for the detail.
Can a survey cover more than wireless?
Yes. Atkins Tech Solutions surveys and plans new spaces and renovations: cable plant condition, drop counts, telecom room capacity, device locations, and pathway routes.
Can you audit a building we just took over?
Yes. An existing cable plant audit inventories the runs and terminations, identifies what tests clean versus what needs replacing, reviews telecom room capacity, and produces as-built documentation for infrastructure that arrived undocumented.
Can you set a standard across all our locations?
Yes, and that's where surveys pay off most for multi-site clients. Atkins Tech Solutions documents a consistent approach to cabling, labeling, access point placement, and telecom room layout so new sites get built to a template instead of reinvented.
Can we hand the survey document to our client?
That is how it's written. The deliverable is meant to go straight in front of an owner or an IT partner's client so they can make a decision, and IT and MSP partners can white-label it and add their own margin.
Can you survey a building that is still under construction?
Yes. Atkins Tech Solutions does predictive planning from drawings during design and pre-construction, then verifies coverage after the space is built and finishes are in.
Does the survey cost apply to the install?
Survey and design are quoted as their own scope. How that carries into an install quote is agreed up front — ask when you request it, and it will be in writing before we start.
Do we have to use you for the installation?
No. The documentation is yours. Atkins Tech Solutions would like to quote the work, but a survey is not a contract to install and the deliverable is complete enough to bid elsewhere.
