Commercial Cable Testing & Certification
Verification, qualification, or certification-level testing matched to the specification — not a generic claim that every drop is certified the same way.
A cable that gets a link light is not automatically a cable that has been properly tested and documented.
Atkins Tech Solutions provides commercial copper testing, troubleshooting, labeling, and project-specific certification testing for new installations, tenant improvements, rack remediation, moves/adds/changes, and projects where the owner, GC, manufacturer, or specification requires formal results.
The test requirement should be defined before the quote — not discovered at punch list.

Verification, qualification, and certification are different
Verification confirms basic wiremap/continuity and helps troubleshoot installation faults. Qualification helps determine whether an existing link can support a target network technology. Certification measures a permanent link or channel against a defined cabling standard and produces formal results. ATS matches the test level to the requirement instead of calling every cable test "certification."

What cable testing can answer
Depending on the test level and project requirements, testing can help determine:
- whether both ends are wired correctly
- cable length and distance to a fault
- opens, shorts, crosses, reversals, or split pairs
- whether an existing link is suitable for the intended application
- whether a new permanent link meets the specified cabling standard
- which cable ID corresponds to which location
- whether the owner received the closeout evidence required by the project
New installations
On new construction and commercial build-outs, testing should be specified before installation begins. ATS can coordinate cable category, permanent-link vs channel requirement, applicable test limit, required report format, labeling convention, cable-ID mapping, specific tester/platform requirements, and manufacturer-warranty requirements where applicable.
Existing cable plants
Testing also matters when a building already has cabling but nobody trusts the documentation.

Testing after rack / IDF remediation
Rack cleanup should not end with better-looking patch cords. Where the scope calls for it, ATS pairs re-termination and labeling with testing so the finished environment has both organization and evidence.
Reports and closeout
Depending on scope, deliverables can include cable ID, origin/destination, pass/fail result where applicable, test-result file or PDF, port mapping, field notes, rack/pathway photos, as-built/redline notes, and punch-list corrections.
For GCs and electrical contractors
If the specification uses terms such as certification, permanent-link testing, DSX, LinkWare, manufacturer warranty, test-report submittal, or TIA-568 test limits, send that specification section with the plans. ATS will price the required test level instead of assuming a cheaper test and creating a closeout change order.
Equipment requirements
Testing is matched to the project specification. ATS provides verification, qualification, or certification-level testing and documented results when required by the scope. When a project requires a specific certification platform, test standard, calibration requirement, or report format, that requirement is identified before pricing and mobilization. Testing equipment is selected to match the awarded specification.

- Does every commercial Cat6 drop need formal certification?
No. The required test level depends on the contract, owner standard, manufacturer warranty, and intended use. The important thing is that the quote and specification agree on the test requirement.
- Can ATS test cabling it did not install?
Yes. Existing-plant audits and troubleshooting are common scopes.
- Can ATS provide formal PDF results when required?
Yes, when formal certification/reporting is part of the awarded scope. Provide the required standard and report format before pricing.
